Success
Project based learning classes can sometimes be difficult for some students. Often times, what one person thinks of as a successful project is different from what another person things of as a successful project. Most of the projects done in Studio Music will be audio and video based and so a lot of the evaluation (i.e. grading) that takes place will be looking at these two different things.
Rehearsal Technique
Much of how well you do in this class will be based on how well you and your peers can run a rehearsal. Running a rehearsal is not hard once you get the hang of it. Regardless of if you have had classroom music instruction or not, running a rehearsal should involve the following steps....

Audio
When looking at audio, we are essentially asking the questions:
When you listen to music on the radio or online or however you, are normally listening to something that has been professionally edited in some way. Sound engineers in recording studios get paid a lot of money to help musicians find and create "their" sound. In this class, you will have time to find and create "your sound" but before that happens, you should be taking steps to ensure that you are not wasting time in this process.
Tips:
Goals:
- Does this music sound appropriate?
- Why does the music sound this way?
- What could have been done to make it better?

Tips:
- Before you even start practicing with your group, your whole group should tune together with the same tuner. This will ensure that everyone is in tune with each other and it gives you the best chance of performing music that sounds good to the listener. No one wants to hear music that is out of tune. As a group, you should all tune before you start recording as well since your instrument will change tune as you play it.
- Practice your piece as an ensemble. Go through your piece at least three times as an ensemble and make sure it works well.
- Once you have your ensemble well practiced, TIME IT!! This is important since you need to fit your audio to the allotted time given to you in Acapella.
- You may consider practicing with a metronome or a drum. This will help keep you together.
Goals:
- Your audio should sound as professional as possible. This means it is free of wrong notes and rhythmic mistakes.
- If you are recording in tracks or layers, the music should sound cohesive and together. You will fix most of these mistakes by simply recording in the right order (rhythm-chords-held harmony- melody- parallel harmony.
