Reading Notes on your Bass
While it is not mandatory to learn all of the notes on your instrument, learning notes does go a long way to helping people perform on their instrument. You will be expected to take a Tenuto test on reading bass notes so I would suggest you practice learning all of the notes up until the 5th fret on all the strings.
Mr. Masaki should have given you a lesson on how frets on the bass work and how to read the notes on the different frets. If you study that, you should be fine. at the very least, you should know what notes you have under your 1st, 2nd, and 4th fingers in two positions (1st and 3rd)

Playing Bass Lines
Bass lines can be extremely difficult to play, but most of the time, a simple bass line will be more than good enough to enhance any piece of music. Knowing how to create an effective bass line takes a little bit of music theory and experience but in the end, there are people who can't even play music so you should be able to.
Chord Progressions to Practice....
C-Am-F-G
C-Dm-F-G
F-Dm-Bb-C
G-Em-C-D
D-Bb-G-A
Practice these chord progressions until you can play them well. You should be able to do both easy and "creative" types of bass lines.

1) Listen to the songs above and pick one that you want to cover.
2) Practice figuring out the bass line. The chords should be given in the music.
3) Practice figuring out the chord progressions on a different instrument (piano/guitar/ukulele)
4) Practice a melody line. You will have to make this up.
5) Create your own arrangement of this song. It needs to be about one minute long so it can fit in Acapella.
6) Record your piece into Acapella. It should have three windows and you must record in this order: bass, piano/guitar/ukulele, and melody line.
