MTME Lesson 2: Intervals (Part 2)
Now that you have a good idea of what intervals are and what they look like, we will now start to identify them in music. You will probably need to refer to the chart in the previous lesson. Hopefully you have memorized it.
They way this works is I will be asking you a series of different types of interval questions and you need to be able to figure it out. These are the easiest and lowest level of interval questions.
Question 1:
F to A is what interval? (Always assume we are going from left to right unless I say otherwise)
Step 1- Find F
Step 2- Find A directly above it
Step 3- Count the number of half steps between the two notes. The answer is 4 (F-F#, F#-G, G-G#, G#-A)
Step 4- Look at the chart and find what interval has 4 half steps.
The answer is Major 3rd or M3.
Question 2:
What is a Perfect 5th above D?
Step 1- Find D
Step 2- Look at the chart and find Perfect 5th. Then find how many half steps there are (7 half steps)
Step 3- From D, go up 7 half steps (D-D#, D#-E, E-F, F-F#, F#-G, G-G#, G#-A)
The answer is A
